Michele Foletti

Mayor

Born in Lugano on 21 April 1966. He is an independent business consultant.
In 1992 he began his political career, being elected to the City Council of Lugano for the party Lega dei Ticinesi. In 1995 he assumed the position of Municipal Councillor for one year, replacing Marco Borradori. In the same year he was elected to the Grand Council; he chaired the Management and Finance Commission twice and in 2012 he became president of the Grand Council. During the 2019-2023 legislative term, he was re-elected to the Grand Council.
In 2013 he was elected Municipal Councillor of the City of Lugano. In 2021-2024 he was reappointed to the Municipality, and named Deputy Mayor at the beginning of the term.
In October 2021 he was elected Mayor, following the death of the late Marco Borradori. He is the head of the Institutions Department, which includes the Municipal Chancellery, the Finance, Human Resources, Communications and Institutional Relations, Economic Development Divisions, the Neighbourhoods Office and the Conciliation Office.
He serves on several boards of directors of companies and associations and on the boards of foundations active in the area.
